Let’s talk about what just happened over the weekend with Jack Doherty.
The 20-year-old YouTuber and Kick streamer, or I should say former Kick streamer because of this. [Lead B roll into clip]
[Clip, 00:15 - 00:20]
Yes, he crashed his 200,000-dollar McLaren while livestreaming on Kick.
Which really makes this video from a year ago seem prophetic. [Lead B roll into clip]
But don’t be mistaken; this wasn’t just some inevitable misfortune that befell him.
No, rather, you’ve got people arguing this was totally reckless on his part, largely due to three things the stream appears to show.
First of all, he’s driving on a wet highway in the rain; second, he’s apparently speeding; and third, he’s repeatedly glancing down at his phone, possibly to read chat. [B roll]
So when the video picks back up, the sports car has crashed into the guardrail, and Doherty’s stuck inside.
[Clip, 00:00 - 00:09] Caption: “Help! Help! Help! Break the fucking window!”
With some bystanders then pulling him out of the wreck, seemingly okay, all things considered.
But his cameraman’s a different story, as you can see him get out of the passenger seat clutching his arm with blood running down his face.
Yet despite this, Doherty’s been criticized for seeming to care more about his totaled car than his injured employee.
And at one point, he hands the camera to his cameraman, who’s still bleeding, and as we’d later discover, would need stitches. [B roll, 00:03]
[Clip, 00:59 - 01:03] Caption: “Michael, here. Michael, do you have your — film on that phone, too.”
Though to be fair, he did ask Michael whether he was okay at least a couple of times.
But regardless, this was apparently the last straw for Kick, which permanently banned Doherty’s account, reportedly for violating its safety rules. [Headline and image]
This after multiple other incidents where he’s also driven recklessly on camera.
Like in March, when he flipped a brand new off-road vehicle. [Lead B roll into clip]
[Clip, show crash]
Or in November, when he crashed a golf cart with his girlfriend inside, toppling it on her side and then lifting it off of her. [Lead B roll into clip]
[Clip, 13:34 - 13:36, 13:43 - 13:47]
So maybe this move from Kick will actually convince some of these IRL streamers to tone down their borderline if not outright illegal content.
Or maybe it won’t, because there’s way too much money in it, and your prefrontal cortex is still developing when you’re a 20-year-old twerp.

This 10-year-old boy took a stolen vehicle for a GTA-style joy ride around a crowded playground in Minneapolis.
Right, you see him drive across the sidewalk right there, and then he keeps going back and forth in the background as kids are just feet away. [B roll, 00:19]
With school staff frantically ushering children off the playground, though luckily none were hurt. [Same B roll]
And now we’re learning that police have arrested the boy for second-degree assault and booked him in the juvenile detention center. [Same B roll]
So you might be wondering, what happened? Did he just get bored of the monkey bars? Was the seesaw not enough for him anymore?
And well, actually, it turns out this kid’s a career criminal.
Right, police say this is at least his third arrest, and he’s a suspect in a dozen cases ranging from auto theft to robbery to assault with a dangerous weapon. [Quote, find “third arrest”]
With his rap sheet reportedly counting around thirty priors dating as far back as May 2023. [Quote, find “30”]
Though to be fair, most of those are runaway incidents. [Same quote]
And as comical as all this may seem on the surface, there is a deeper issue here that needs to be solved.
So you’ve got the county attorney’s office saying in a statement:
“We are facing an urgent crisis in our community related to a small group of children who are not competent to stand trial in the juvenile justice system, but who cannot safely be at home. We are actively engaged with law enforcement, as well as county and state partners, about the critical need for safe and appropriate out-of-home placements for children with these complex needs who require specialized care. We cannot charge or prosecute our way out of this crisis.” [Quote]

Alex Cooper is being accused of spreading propaganda.
That’s what some fans and others online are alleging after the normally not-so-political Call Her Daddy host had Kamala (Comma-Luh) Harris on her show.
With many people slamming Cooper on X as well as in the comments of a teaser for the episode posted on the Call Her Daddy Instagram account, writing things like: [][]
“Call her propaganda”
Others claiming they are going to stop listening to Call Her Daddy, condemning Cooper for veering into politics, and implying that the Harris campaign paid her off.
Some also expressing support for Trump, implying that they thought Cooper was being biased by hosting Harris, and asking if she would be interviewing Trump as well.
Meanwhile there were plenty of people who took aim at Harris, criticizing her for doing this interview when people are suffering from the devastation brought by Hurricane Helene.
And in other places online, we saw folks slamming Harris for going on Cooper’s podcast instead of doing sit-downs with more traditional media sources.[][][]
Now Cooper, for her part, addressed much of the criticism against her first thing in the intro to the full episode, explaining why she had Harris on the show:
“As you guys know, I do not usually discuss politics or have politicians on the show because I want Call Her Daddy to be a place that everyone feels comfortable tuning in.” (0:08-0:21)
“Overall, my focus is women and the day-to-day issues that we face. So, I will be honest, I had been going back and forth with this decision for a while, to get involved or to not get involved. But at the end of the day, I couldn't see a world in which one of the main conversations in this election is women, and I'm not a part of it.” (0:33-1:02)
“I want to be so clear, since this isn't a one-sided conversation, we reached out to former President Donald Trump to come on the show. If he also wants to have a meaningful, in-depth conversation about women's rights in this country, then he is welcome on Call Her Daddy anytime. So, Daddy Gang, with all of that said, let's get into it.” (2:10-2:24)
Right, and as Cooper indicated there, much of the discussion she had with Harris centered on women’s issues like reproductive rights and abortion, sexual abuse and safety, as well as how Trump will impact women’s rights.
With some of the most notable and widely shared moments coming from the discussions they had about abortion, like this clip where Cooper asked about a key moment from Trump/Harris debate:
Cooper: “I do want to clarify something. In the debate, former President Trump claimed that some states are executing babies after birth. Can you just clarify?”
Harris: “That is not happening anywhere in the United States. It is not happening. And it's a lie. Just it's a bold-faced lie that he is suggesting that. Can you imagine? Can you imagine? He is suggesting that women in their ninth month of pregnancy are electing to have an abortion. Are you kidding? That is that is so. Outrageously inaccurate. And it's so insulting.” (30:15-31:03)
As well as this moment from Harris:
“Because here's the thing that's so messed up about this. Some of these people will say, whoa, but I do believe in exceptions. I believe that there should be an exception in terms of in the life of the mother. Okay, here, let's talk about this. This gets back to, again, practical application of policy. Okay, so you believe there's an exception that the person should receive abortion care if the life of the mother is at risk. You know what that means in practical terms? She's almost dead before you decide to give her care. What? So we're going to have public health policy that says a doctor, a medical professional, waits until you're at death's door? Before they give you care, that's outrageous that anybody would be saying that that is acceptable policy”. (28:06-28:56)
Cooper also asking Harris to respond to comments Arkansas Governor Sarah Sanders made last week, where she criticized Harris for not having biological kids,
Saying that Harris, quote, “doesn't have anything keeping her humble." []
To which Harris said:
“I don't think she understands that there are a whole lot of women out here who, one, are not aspiring to be humble.” (35:43-35:52)
“And I think it's really important for women to lift each other up.” (36:06-36:10)
“We have our family by blood, and then we have our family by love. And I have both. And I consider it to be a real blessing. And I have two beautiful children, Cole and Ella, who call me Mamala. We have a very modern family.” (36:20-36:39)
Right, but with all that, while there was a lot of backlash against Cooper and Harris, there was also a ton of support too.
Many cheering Cooper for using her platform to talk about such important issues, particularly for women.
Some also saying that the interview itself was really meaningful and impactful [][]
Others also hitting back at those who criticized Harris for going on Call Her Daddy by noting just how massive of a reach the podcast has.[] [][]
Not just when compared to more mainstream media outlets, but particularly with key voter bases that Harris absolutely needs to win — particularly younger women who aren’t necessarily politically active. []
Right, according to Spotify, last year, Call Her Daddy was the platform’s second most-listened-to podcast not just in the U.S. but globally as well.
Trailing only The Joe Rogan Experience in both categories.
What’s more, it’s also been reported that Call Her Daddy was the most-listened-to podcast among women last year as well.
With Cooper herself previously saying after she first signed her big Spotify deal that she thinks around 90% of her fans now are women.
And other outlets also finding that her primary audience is 18- to 29-year-olds.
So clearly, this is an insanely important group for Harris to try and reach.
But Comma-Luh not stopping with Call Her Daddy.
She also appeared on 60 Minutes last night. (Broll)
And later this week, she’s set to sit down with Stephen Colbert, Howard Stern, and The View.
Meanwhile, Tim Walz is set to appear on Jimmy Kimmel tonight. []
Which is why you’ve got pretty much every major outlet running headlines saying her campaign’s launched a full-on “media blitz.”
Right, and like with Call Her Daddy, you have plenty of people taking aim at some of these interviews Harris has lined up, arguing that she should be doing more mainstream appearances.
On that note, I’d really love to know what you think—especially if you are a regular viewer of my show, Call Her Daddy, or any of the others we mentioned — do you think this is a good strategy?

There are real concerns that the FDA’s latest plans to combat racial bias in the medical world isn’t going to be nearly enough to help minority patients.
At the center of this are Pulse Oximeters, which are those little clamps hospitals put on your fingertip to see how much oxygen is in your blood.
Well, it ends up that they're not very effective for patients with darker skin and especially black folks.
Right, Dr. Noha Aboelta documented one such case herself.
She had an African American patient with emphysema who was showing 88% blood oxygen saturation.
For the record that is very low and a sign that the patient is at imminent risk of hypoxia and possible organ failure.
But considering the patient’s history of lung diseases, Dr. Aboelta thought he was actually worse than that.
[]So she had blood work done and it was confirmed that the patient for sure needed supplemental oxygen all the time.
We all saw similar problems during COVID.
In December 2020, the New England Journal of Medicine published a piece that showed pulse oximeters were three times as likely to misreport dangerous oxygen levels in black patients as white ones.
Or what happened to 70-year-old Walter Wilson.
He had COVID and was using a pulse oximeter at home to gauge whether his case was bad enough to go to a hospital.
[]It kept reporting he was in a safe range but things were clearly not going well so he checked himself into a hospital and it was confirmed that he was sick as fuck.
Which is why he’s joining a class-action lawsuit against pulse oximeter manufacturers.
It’s because of reports like this -- alongside other well-documented cases of racial bias in the medical world -- that state attorneys general and even US senators have pushed the FDA to put new rules to combat that.
And to be clear, racial bias in the medical world is nothing new.
We’ve covered it on the show plenty of times, such as how self-reported symptoms from black women are more commonly ignored than their white counterparts.
This is especially true of pregnant black women and even extremely rich and famous people like Beyonce and Serena Williams aren’t immune.
One could argue that it has a human element but pulse oximeters are machines… How can they be biased?
But it’s entirely possible that bias can be inadvertently introduced such as by not testing the devices on enough dark-skinned people.
This issue has been on the FDA’s radar for years now.
In 2021 it sent letters to doctors warning them about how inaccurate they could be for some patients and then funded research into the problem.
Then this year it was supposed to release new rules for manufacturers last week which the agency said would include new requirements for manufacturers to test the devices on far more people with darker skin.
[]However, industry experts think that pushback from manufacturers will soften the rules.
For example, the new rules aren’t expected to require oximeter makers to actually test the devices on people with perfusion.
[]That’s when a patient is dehydrated to the point that blood circulation is affected.
This isn’t uncommon either and is well documented in people with cardiovascular diseases.[]
Which is extremely relevant as black people are more likely to have cardiovascular diseases.
So it’s the compounding nature of these factors that makes testing just one thing ineffective, something that people on the FDA’s Medical Devices Advisory Committee even warned about.
[]We’ll have to wait and see what will be done, but it’s a big reminder that racial bias can seep its way into all kinds of industries and places unless people are actively considering it.

Item descriptionHaiti is no stranger to violence.
But that doesn’t make what happened there last week any less shocking.
And that’s a massacre that left dozens dead and thousands on the run.
Right, it all went down on Thursday, but the details have been slowly trickling out ever since.
At around 3 am, gang members equipped with automatic rifles descended on a small town in the central part of the country – roughly 60 miles north of the capital.
According to a local spokesperson, many victims were shot in the head as gang members went house to house, with the spokesperson saying:
"They were left to shoot anybody, everybody was running everywhere. They were walking, shooting people, killing people, burning people, burning homes, burning cars."
And with that, when the violence ended, at least 70 people — including ten women and three infants — were dead.
In addition, more than 6,000 people were forced to flee.
And notably, regarding the death toll, a prominent civil rights organization in the country?
It said the death toll was likely higher.
And if that’s the case, it might surpass the 71-person massacre that took place in the capital in 2018, which was then considered the worst in decades.
And notably, there, that civil rights group?
It also said rumors had been circulating for two months about an attack like this, with them saying in a statement:
"If funds allocated to the intelligence service of various state institutions had been used effectively, the…massacre could have been avoided.”
And with that, a monster by the name of Luckson Elan (Lookson Elon - you can listen to first name here) has now taken responsibility.
With him saying it was retaliation for the town’s people remaining passive while police and vigilante groups killed his soldiers.
And as far as who he and his soldiers are?
Well, he’s the leader of a gang in the area that’s been accused of everything from mass kidnappings to rape and murder, as well as forcing farmers off their lands and recruiting children.
And actually, with that, the US sanctioned him, along with a former Haitian politician, just last month.
Though, it’s not clear right now what effect that’s really having.
And that’s just one way the efforts of the international community seem to just not be enough.
For example, Haiti has received a fraction of the resources it’s been promised.
And efforts to bring in a formal U.N. peacekeeping mission? Well, they’ve been underwhelming to say the least.
Right, three months into its deployment, the force has just over 400 of the planned 2,500 officers.
And notably, the force has no presence in the area near where the massacre happened, which is a key agricultural region where at least 20 gangs are known to operate.
And with all that, the situation has just been getting worse and worse.
Right, armed gangs control most of the capital and are expanding to nearby regions.
And with that, more than 3,600 people have been killed this year alone.
Plus, the number of people internally displaced by the conflict has grown to more than 700,000, nearly doubling in six months.
And of course, some have also fled abroad.
And there, nearby nations have actually sometimes sent them back, with the US, for example, even deporting a few dozen Haitians back in April.
And to that point, we’ve obviously had a lot of discussion about the Haitian community in the US recently.
And actually, just last week, Trump said he would revoke the immigration status for thousands of Haitian migrants living legally in the country.
And of course, he’s also promised to deport millions of immigrants from the country.
And of course, a lot of that is driven by rhetoric framing immigration as a threat to security.
But there, it’s important to say with Haiti, for example, we’ve done more to threaten their security than any Haitians are threatening our own.
I mean, there’s a lot of history there that’s worth learning about it.
But even besides that, it’s believed the country’s gangs are armed largely by guns trafficked from the United States.
And actually, similarly, it’s estimated that 70 percent of the weapons trafficked into Mexico come from US.
This is actually why the Supreme Court is now considering a $10 billion lawsuit brought by Mexico against American gun makers.
And then, as far as crime in general?
I mean, there’s no evidence that documented or undocumented immigrants commit crimes at higher rates than citizens.
In fact, some studies say they commit less.
Right, so if you’re worried about Haitians in the US?
You should know that some have left the kind of violence many of us can’t even fathom.
And it’s violence that the US has played at least a small role in creating.
